A two-day apple festival was organized by the Kashmir Department of Horticulture at SKICC Srinagar.
The festival was opened by the Lieutenant Governor, J&K Manoj Sinha and Kailash Choudhary, MOS, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare of the Government of India was the guest of honor. Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, GOI virtually addressed the audience. Navin Kumar Chaudhary, Principal Secretary of Government, Department of Horticulture, J&K, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, CEOs of various departments and Vice President, KVIB, Dr HinaShafi Bhat attended the festival.
The main highlights of the festival were:
â¢ Buyer-seller meeting
â¢ Exhibition of local and exotic fruits, especially apple varieties.
â¢ Exhibition of high density planting technology and the latest horticultural machinery.
â¢ Exhibition of the latest varieties of fruit plants
â¢ Unveiling of brochures on horticulture by the Honorable Lieutenant Governor J&K.
Over 40 stalls have been set up on the site, exhibiting a huge collection of local and exotic fruits, machinery and high density technology. Technical sessions were also part of the event in which experts from SKUAST-K took part.
Interactions between buyers from all over the country and abroad like Lulu Group Dubai, Reliance India Ltd., Big Basket Begaluru, ITC Food Haryana, Grow Global Kolkata, PARC Mumbai, Innoterra Tech. Mumbai, Suro Agro Delhi, Frutech Agro Industries Pvt. Ltd. Maharashtra, were held with the main fruit traders and entrepreneurs of UT. Subsequently, various memoranda of understanding between buyers and sellers were signed.
Honorable Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said in his speech that this type of program would help boost the horticulture sector and the Indian government is committed to increasing farmers’ incomes, for which various programs have already been launched by the Department.
The Honorable Lieutenant Governor, while addressing the assembly, congratulated the entire department, especially Navin Kumar Chaudhary and the Director General of Kashmir Horticulture for organizing such a mega event and a also appreciated the work of the horticultural department.
He said the government is committed to putting all the fruits under crop insurance. He urged the Department to organize sensitization camps at the raw root level, so that farmers become familiar with departmental patterns and technical know-how. On the occasion he unveiled the booklets of the Horticulture Service.
The Principal Secretary of Government, Department of Horticulture, Navin Kumar Chaudhary, said on the occasion that horticulture is the backbone of UT’s economy and various measures have been taken to further strengthen and stimulate the area.
He added that the Horticultural Department has worked tirelessly for the uplifting of the farming community.
While presenting a vote of thanks to the dignitaries / guests and other attendees, General Manager Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, General Manager of Horticulture highlighted the achievements of the department and added that in the future, other events of this type will be organized.
At the end of the event, letters of appreciation and memorabilia were presented to attendees for their accomplishments in the horticultural industry.
